Sgt. Tice was a Life Member of the 1st Marine Division Association, Oregon/Columbia River Chapter.

In his database record he stated service in “C-1-13  WWII”.  According to historical records, “On December 11, 1943, the regiment was reactivated and re-designated as an artillery regiment. The 13th Marines played an important role in securing Iwo Jima. On February 6, 1946, it was again inactivated.”

(WWII patch)

As a member of the Chapter Honor Guard, during 2001 through 2008 Ed participated in 97 Marine Military Honors services.

You may also notice that during his post-active duty employment at Convair, Ed worked on the Terrier Missile system, which by the way was the 1st guided missile system commissioned in the United States Marine Corps.

After completing its testing at White Sands, NM, it was commissioned for active duty in the 1st Medium Antiaircraft Missile Battalion (1st MAAM Bn, FMFPAC) at Twentynine Palms, CA – my outfit in which I served as a Guided Missile Fire Controlman (0791) in Charlie Battery, in the late 1950s.  It was a complex system which served very well in fixed installations for many years aboard Navy ships, but in an even more complex, logistically challenging mobile configuration it was soon superseded by the light antiaircraft Hawk missile (LAAM) which served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and in the Vietnam War.
